After sharing the excitement of my juvenile Little Pied Cormorant with you - I have to tell you I am currently in love with two juvenile Australian Pelicans. Again, the only ones I have ever seen - although I am currently stalking them in all my spare time Even though he looks HUGE, he is only a bubba. You can tell he is a juvenile, as the ring around his eye, instead of being yellow - is blue, and his eye, instead of being brown, appears blue also. The feathers, instead of being black are brown and the pattern at the end of the feathers is quite different also. I know the ducks are distracting, but this is the best shot I have to show the beautiful eye. Australian Pelicans seem to be the most peaceful creatures; I spend every spare moment now with them, and I never ever see them squabble or fight, they just hang out being beautiful. I love them
you and my lil sister would get along perfectly.. only this morning as i was driving her to some sailing course she is doing on Lake BG she was saying how much she loved pellies.. i immediatly thought of you
amazing info about the young pellies, i had no idea... i got a Q.. ever seen a pelly nest? or a newborn pelly?
ohhh, how wonderful that your lil' sis' loves pellis too And, how cool that you thought of B2! Thank you Jez
For your Q - NoooOOOOooo, I have not, but wouldn't I love to! I have seen pictures of them in books, but Aussie Pelis have their babies in huge nesting areas (on the ground) and I have a feeling the majority is in South Australia. I believe and am happy to say, that this is usually well away from man, thank goodness. I think it is going to be my mission in life to somehow see a nesting area, 'cos I would love to see a baby peli. I have read they have a very high mortality rate They are fascinating to read about. Have you ever seen a peli nest or baby peli?

Don't apologize you did a great job... & the eye is very noticeably blue. It's a gorgeous young bird.
The eye reminds me of kittens when they are still very young & they too have that blue quality to them.
